The Journal of Mining and Geological Sciences is a successor of the Annual of the Higher Institute of Mining and Geology and the Annual of the University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski ". The Journal has four sections. It includes original fundamental and applied scientific research papers in the following areas: geological, mining, technical, physical and mathematical, chemical, humanitarian and economic sciences. The publication targets a wide range of readers – scientists, specialists, lecturers, Ph.D, students, students, business representatives, etc. Through its publications, the Journal creates an environment for intensive scientific exchanges and discussions on a wide range of issues in these areas.
The Journal of Mining and Geological Sciences accepts and publishes articles in English only. They are published after anonymous double-blind peer review. The procedure implies double anonymity – of the author and the peer reviewer. This is done to reduce the subjective factor, to ensure the impartiality of the peer review and to improve the quality of the published materials. The peer reviews are kept at the editorial office of the Journal for five calendar years. The papers are presented at the International Scientific Conference, organised annually by the University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski”. Scientists from the University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski ", Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Technical University of Sofia, University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, Sofia University" St. Kliment Ohridski ", foreign scientists and business specialists take part in the conference. The Journal is well renowned internationally, and over the years papers from scientists from Russia, Germany, Austria, Ukraine, Serbia, Romania, Macedonia, Mongolia, Sudan and other countries have been published.
The main criteria for the evaluation of the quality of the reviewed articles are: compliance with the themes; compliance with the formal technical requirements; the scientific contribution of the presented research compared to the contemporary scientific literature; originality of the study; the quality of the data used and the results and conclusions obtained.
The Journal adheres to the editorial ethics standards in line with the international standards recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (http://publicationethics.org/) for reviewing, publishing, and respecting copyright.
The authors are solely responsible for the content of the published data, results and opinions displayed therein.
Code of Ethics of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Mining and Geological Sciences, published by the University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski”
This Code of Ethics relate to the relationship between the Editorial Board of the Journal and the authors, as well as between the Editorial Board and the reviewers assigned to analyse the papers submitted for publication.
Applying the code ensures that high ethical standards are met, both in national scientific circles and in the international scientific community.
The Editorial Board of the Journal shall approve scientific papers that:
- are original and have scientific (fundamental) and scientific-applied (practical) contributions;
- correctly reflect the scientific achievements of the authors cited therein;
- are submitted for publication in accordance with the standards and instructions of the Journal;
- have not been published in other scientific publications.
The Editorial Board shall not publish papers:
- which contain unjustified attacks or disrespect for the work of other authors. Disputes should be based on scientific arguments and keeping with the highest standards for preserving the prestige of the authors of the criticized scientific issues;
- which deviate from the principle of scientific good faith;
- for which plagiarism has been detected. The authors are responsible for the originality and scientific contributions of their publications.
When violations of this Code of Ethics are found by the Editor-in-Chief, or when it is established that the work submitted does not meet the minimum standards for scientific contributions, the matter is referred to the Editorial Board for resolution. The publication shall be returned to the author, stating the violations, findings and recommendations. The author has the right to object, which is discussed by the Editorial Board, which comes up with a final decision.
It is the peer reviewer's responsibility to point out gaps in the cited literature
If necessary or in case of a dispute in the Editorial Board, the Editor-in-Chief shall be entitled to designate a super peer reviewer to give an additional opinion on the originality and scientific value of a particular publication.
The Editorial Board shall not provide third parties with information on rejected papers, regardless of the reason.
Each author has the right to withdraw the work submitted for publication before the start of the pre-press preparation at the latest.
The Editorial Board shall discuss all signals for violation of this Code of Ethics.
This Code of Ethics has been agreed with the members of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Mining and Geological Sciences.
